From the Admiralty to the Cosmao: on the right of the funeral
barge, a large vessel with a blue flag carries the Governor General;
on the left, another carries Admiral Vivielle.
Six State vessels follow, carrying the family and the principal
civil and military dignitaries.

Before the Cosmao: all the military High Command in dress uniform
and Marine Guard of Honour under arms receive the body of Cardinal
Lavigerie aboard.

The bier was hoisted over onto the vessel, buglers sounded the
general salute, marines presented arms and everyone doffed their
headgear. The Cosmao left at five minutes past one. Bishops Livinhac,
Tournier, Brincat and Mgr Grussenmeier accompanied the body to Tunis. |

6-7 December: The body of Cardinal Lavigerie, transported by the Cosmao
lies in state in Tunis Cathedral. 7 December at 9 o'clock, Solemn Mass
celebrated by Bishop Livinhac for the repose of the soul of the Archbishop
of Carthage.

7 December: After the Mass, a special train bore the body of Cardinal
Lavigerie to Carthage. Having arrived
at Malga station the coffin was transferred to Carthage Cathedral by
a troop wagon train.
A detachment of the 4th Mounted Regiment provided the escort.
7 December: the cortège arrived at the Cathedral
at half-past twelve. The great bell tolled.
The White Fathers lifted the body down and laid it to rest in the Basilica.

Thursday 8 December After a funeral service conducted
by Bishop Brincat at Carthage Cathedral, the body of the Cardinal lay
in state for the morning. At 3 in the afternoon, the burial took place
in private. Present were their Lordships Livinhac and Brincat, then
Fournier, Garaniol, and Polémé, the sister of the Cardinal,
two relatives, and the Missionaries of Africa.
The body of our Founder was laid to rest in the little crypt that opens
on the right of the entrance to the sanctuary, near the altar dedicated
to St Fulgence.
